Doctor

  • Jeffrey N Krakowsky , DVM



    Dr. K is one of the founding fathers of the practice, in particular the Coram Animal Clinic.  A 1967 graduate of the prestigious Cornell University, Dr. K started out as a real 'country' vet, treating horses and doing housecalls.  In 1976, he and several other veterinarians created the Animal Emergency Service in Coram (now in Selden), dedicating 24 hours a day to assuring optimal veterinarian care for Long Island's four legged friends.

    Dr. Krakowsky has a special interest in the field of reproduction, and works diligently to help reputable breeders reach the gaols they've set for their breeding programs.

    Residing in Sayville with his wife, Sue, Dr. K shares his life with several cats and two children.  A man of many interests and talents, he enjoys fishing, reading and classical music (especially during surgery).  His most creative talent, woodworking, fills his home with beauty.  To take advantage of Dr. K's expertise, you'll need to visit him at our Coram location on Route 112.

  • Dr. Albert Conover , DVM


    Dr. Conover has always had a love for animals and a very active interest in science.  In high school, when classes were finished, he would be greeted by his pet crow, Clyde.  Since that time, Dr. Conover has raised and bred verious birds, fish, reptiles, amphibians, dogs and cats.

    After receiving a Bachelor of Science Degree, he spent two and a half years working towards his Masters Degree in Zoology at Southern Illinios University.  Prior to vet school, Dr. Conover also taught Earth Science and Biology at Sterling High School in New Jersey.

    Pursuant to his dreams and goals, Dr. Conover received his DVM degree from the University of the Phillippines in 1974.  During this time, he also published several scientific articles and received recognition from the US CIVAC Mission 1st Civil Affairs Battalion for his help in eliminating rabies from Bohol Island of the Phillippines.

    After graduating, Dr. Conover became an associate of HAH and a partner in 1976.  Along with several other veterinarians, he was monumental in the creation of the Animal Emergency Service.  In addition, Dr. Conover has always been an active participant in continuing education, and is a member of numerous local and national veterinary medical associations.

    Dr. Conover resides in Port Jefferson with his wife of 35 years.  During his free time, he can be found spending time with his three daughters and three grandchildren.  Dr. Conover also enjoys water sports, gardening, carpentry, drawing, music, dancing and cooking.

  • Dr. Robert Rowman , DVM


    Dr. Rowman received his DVM degree at the University of Parma, Italy.  He then completed one year of clinical internship at Purdue University School of Veterinary Medicine.  In 1982, he began his career as an associate at Hauppauge Animal Hospital, and became a partner in 1988.  He enjoys internal medicine and general surgery, and has a special interest in radiology.

    Dr. Rowman is dedicated to staying current with the latest medical techniques and attends monthly diagnostic imaging seminars and participates in annual conferences.  He is a member of the American Veterinary Medical Association, as well as the New York State and Long Island Veterinary Medical Associations.  He is also a member of the New York State Academy of Veterinary Practice.

    A native Long Islander, Dr. Rowman lives in Stony Brook with his wife, twin daughters and their various pets.  He enjoys tennis, kayaking and Italian cuisine.

  • Dr. Peter Kowalewski , DVM


    From the time Dr. Kowalewski (aka Dr. Pete) was a youngster, he was committed to practicing veterinary medicine.  He obtained his dream when he graduated in 1984 from Iowa State University.  Taking his exceptional knowledge and skills, Dr. Pete returned to his 'native roots' to practice veterinary medicine here on Long Island.

     

    Over the years, both the Animal Emergency Clinics in Nassau and Suffolk counties have had the good fortune of his expertise.  In 1991, Dr. Pete opened his mobile veterinary practice, balancing quality care with the epitome of convenience.

    In 2001, HAH welcomed Dr. Pete on as a partner.  He has a special interest in endoscopic and orthopedic procedures, and also attends monthly radiology meetings.  Ground Zero was a reality to Dr. Pete, as he treated the 'canine heroes' of 9/11.

    Dr. Pete resides in Mt. Sinai with his wife, two daughters, two canine comrads and two feline friends.  A black belt in Kempo Karate and Kung Fu, Dr. Pete enjoys boating, skiing and mountain climbing.

  • Dr. Pat Clark , DVM


    Dr. Clark graduated from the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell in 1983, and has 20 years of experience practicing veterinary medicine on Long Island.  Dr. Clark has lived on Long Island all of her life and has a husband and two children.  She also lives with two crazy Brittany Spaniels, three needy cats, and a chinchilla.  Dr. Clark is an avid runner and has participated in the Long Island Half-Marathon several times.  In her free time, Dr. Clark enjoys reading and gardening.

  • Dr. Dave Aguirre , DVM


    Dr. Aguirre, a native Long Islander, is a graduate of Colorado State University's School of Veterinary Medicine and Biomedical Sciences.  Both before and during vet school, he was a member of CSU's prestigious Animal Cancer Center, where he worked both in the clinics and in the investigational therapeutics laboratory.  Dr. Aguirre spent three years focusing on various drugs and their potential anti-cancer properties, as well as drugs that could help the existing chemotherapy drugs work more efficiently.  In 2008, his work on the effects of milk-thistle extract and its anti-cancer potential was published and presented at the Veterinary Cancer Society's annual meeting in Georgia.

    As can be expected, Dr. Aguirre has a special interest in cancer, autoimmune and other diseases that plague our geriatric pets.  He continues to stay well connected with academia to better care for his patients.


    When not at HAH, Dr. Aguirre spends his free time with his wife of 12 years, his dog of 12 years and their newborn daughter.  He also permits his cat, Fulton, to attack and kill him at least once a day - twice on Sunday.  He is an avid guitar player and peforms at the odd show in Brooklyn when time permits.  Dr. Aguirre can be found in both our Hauppauge and Coram offices, the local pizzeria and Yankee Stadium - weather permitting.

  • Anne Munro , DVM


    Dr. Anne Munro is a 1988 graduate of the New York State College of Veterinary Medicine at Cornell.  Although she proudly admits that her specialty is apprehensive cats, she works well with all animals.  A native Long Islander, Dr. Munro is an avid gardener.  She shares her home with her husband, two daughters and three unique street cats.  Although Dr. Munro only works at HAH part-time, she looks forward to helping you with any of your pet concerns.

Management

  • Mary Lou Jantz , Notary Public


    Mary Lou began working at HAH 13 years ago as a receptionist and bookkeeper.  Currently, Mary Lou can be found working hard in the office as our bookkeeper and notary public.  In her free time, Mary Lou enjoys traveling and spending time with her two grandchildren.

  • Debbie Krisman , Office Manager


    Since Debbie was a little girl, she always had a love for all animals and she desired to work with them in some way or another.  Today, as an adult and after raising 5 children, she decided to enter the world of employment.  She worked in an elementary school for several years part-time.  It was when she was seeking full time employment that she found her way here.  Having a large part of her life surrounded by children, the transition to animal care has been just as rewarding.  She feels that, like our children, animals need love and nurturing.  She states, "Besides meeting and helping the animals that come into our hospital, I feel right at home in such a caring and friendly environment".

  • Shirley Hafner , Veterinary Technician Supervisor


    Shirley received her Bachelor Degree in fine arts/advertising from NYIT and proceeded to work in that field for several years. Upon her company's relocation, Shirley realized she could no longer keep her love to nurture animals on a back burner. That was not only a fortunate decision for the animal world but particularly fortunate for us here at Hauppauge  Animal Hospital, as it allowed Shirley to come aboard. That was 20 YEARS AGO!
     
    Shirley has since been a student through Cedar Valley College and is currently participating in continuing education so that she may offer the animal world, as well as our clients, the most updated knowledge.
     
    West Islip is home to Shirley and her 8 cats, 2 guinea pigs and her maltese, Gracey. If  that all doesn't keep her busy enough, she enjoys spending her down time reading and visiting the zoo.  Shirley is also a talented oil painter, specializing  in landscapes and, of course, animal portraits.

  • Sandi Lackovic


    Sandi is our back staff and pharmacy supervisor.  She graduated from Johns Hopkins University with a degree in Behavioral Biology in May 2007, and is currently attending New York University's Masters Program in Psychology.  She enjoys spending time with her cat, Quincy, and has recently become the proud parent of two pomeranians, Lulu and Lincoln.  When not at HAH, Sandi can be found training for triathalon encompassing running, swimming and biking.

  • Erin Carney


    Erin was our back staff supervisor and assistant hospital director. She left HAH in September 2007 to attend The Royal Veterinary College in London, and currently works with us during the summer months.  We hope that after her graduation in 2012 she will return to practice at Hauppauge Animal Hospital.

Technician

  • Melissa Arroyo , LVT


    At 7 years of age, Melissa knew animals were her calling, and she knew that she would either be an animal doctor or an animal nurse. She pursued her career after high school by  not only taking a position here, but also enrolling in the Veterinary Technician Program at Suffolk County Community College.  Melissa achieved her long time dream by passing her technician licensing exam in 2001.

    Melissa has a special interest in opossums and is an avid reader of the latest novels.  She also enjoys spending lots of time with her dogs - Blossom Rose, Nikki, Jeremy, Skye, Misty and Mumbles - and her cat, Oreo.

  • Elizabeth Reilly


    Shortly after finishing high school, Liz chose to start her family and made that her primary focus. Now the mother of three beautiful children, nurturing came naturally for her. When the outside work force became her next venture,  Liz depended on those skills, along with her love of animals, to join our team.
     
    Elizabeth's family includes numerous cats and dogs of various sizes and ages. When not at work here or at home, she enjoys dancing, boating, fast cars, and entertaining family and friends.

  • Jorge Gandara


    Jorge was born in Guatemala and moved to the United States 20 years ago.  Jorge has three sons, a daughter and a beautiful wife.  Jorge says that his respect for all of God's creatures is what led him to choose a career with animals.  When Jorge is not working hard at HAH, he likes to read the bible, play his guitar and spend quality time with his family.

  • Jessica DiNardo-Getter


    Jessica has been working with animals for the past 10 years as both a groomer and veterinary assistant.  She is currently a technician at HAH and is working towards certification.  Jessica is the proud mommy of her daughter, Claire, and her cat, Waldo.

  • Sharon Hohmann


    Sharon has been working with animals since 1983, first as a receptionist and later as a technician.  She has had varied experience in different states, working as a veterinary technician in Florida for 10 years and in Virginia for 13 years.  Sharon's 'animal past' also includes work as a wildlife rehabilitator and showing chihuahuas.  A Long Island native, Sharon came to work at HAH when she moved back to Smithtown.  She currently shares her home with her four year old Border Collie, Comanchee.


Reception

  • Dee


    After a 10 year hiatus, Dee returned to work at HAH in 2003.  A true animal lover, Dee has taken in a fair amount of rescue cats from the hospital; and she currently shares her home with two feline friends.  To enjoy her friendly and humorous personality, you'll have to make an appointment for Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday night.  

  • Jackie Cutrone


    Jackie grew up on Long Island and formerly worked for AHRC.  She came to work at HAH four years ago and is currently waiting to take her LPN licensing exam.  In her free time, Jackie enjoys spending time with her friends and her animal companions.

  • Kate Hanrahan


    Katie came to work at HAH two years ago and has filled our reception area with a cheerful presence ever since.  She shares her home with two Golden Retrievers - ten year old Kelsey Marie and five month old Arlo.  When not at HAH, Katie can be found reading or hanging out at Cedar Beach.  Katie is also working toward plans of attending school to become a pediatric cardiovascular technician.Vetsuite_Img_72161

  • Annemarie Jetzorreck


    Annemarie has been surrounded by animals since a very young age.  Her father worked as a groomer when she was a child, and Annemarie always knew that she also wanted to work with animals.  Although she grew up on Long Island, she later moved to Long Island.  During her 13 years in North Carolina, Annemarie bred King Charles Cavaliers and Persian cats.   Now back on the island, Annemarie has no problem staying busy between her job at HAH and managing a home with her husband, two children and various dogs and cats.

  • Pamela Lorenz


    Pam has always had a special bond with animals.  It wasn't until after she graduated college that she realized she could use this to her advantage and make a career from this.  Along with her three chihuahuas - Henry Rodriguez, Kingston and Jo-Lisa Jane - Pam is constantly busy, whether she is going to the dog park, reading, surfing or just relaxing with her boyfriend, Jay.  But most of the time, you can find her at HAH.

  • Nicki Rehm


    Nicki has been working with animals for the past 15 years as an assistant and groomer.  Her ultimate goal is to gain certification as a veterinary technician.  Nicki currently lives with four dogs - Dakota, Cody, Winston, and Penny.  When she is not busy with her dogs, family and work, Nicki enjoys shopping and spending time on her boat.

    With plans to graduate as a medical technician in 2010, Jessi keeps busy by working at HAH during the day and attending school in the evening.  When she does have free time, she enjoys reading and spending time with her two Boston Terriers, Karma and Cody, and her corn snake, Pharoah.

Hospital Cats

  • Mama Cat


    You can often see Mama Cat wandering around the hospital or sunning herself outside.  Although she may play 'hard to get,' she loves to chat and be given attention.

  • Silver


    You probably won't see much of Silver up front in the waiting room, but you are sure to catch a glimpse of her if you head to the back.  This affectionate feline enjoys napping in the kitchen and having her head scratched.

  • Ozzy and Kipper


    These lovable, polydactyl felines have been living at HAH for the past two years.  Ozzy and Kipper are in desperate need  of good homes where they can be given the attention and space to roam that they deserve.  They are three years old, altered, healthy and up to date on all vaccines - not to mention they are handsome, friendly and so affectionate!
